Victorine E. Lieske
I was born in 1972 in a small town in Nebraska. My parents, who love genealogy, named me after my ancestor, Victorine DeVilbis. Growing up, my parents always called me "Vicki" unless I was in trouble. Then it was, "Victorine Elizabeth!" (You have to say it fast, and quite loud.) This resulted in me not liking my full name very much, until I grew older and realized how unique it was.
I majored in Art at Ricks College in Idaho, now called BYU Idaho. In 1995 I married my husband, Charles. We raise our four children from our home in Seward, NE. Together, we own and operate Victorine Originals Rubber Stamps. I design many of the stamps, which we manufacture from our home.
I have always loved to read and to write. In 2006 I injured my back and felt that it was the perfect opportunity to write that novel I'd always wanted to put down on paper. I finished the rough draft in one week. Then I decided to see if it was any good. It wasn't.
I sought after critiques from published authors, and found my writing needed improvement. After joining an online critique circle, I learned how to tighten up my book. It took a while, but eventually I felt like my book was ready for publishing.
In April of 2010 I decided I would self-publish my novel, Not What She Seems, on the Kindle. I had heard of authors having success by doing this. It was free to do, and not too hard, so I put it out there to see what would happen. By the end of June I had sold over 600 ebooks, and had requests for my book in paperback. I prepared my files and uploaded them to CreateSpace, and now I have a paperback available.
